EU Committee of the Regions ECOS Commission will have a Study Visit to Helsinki-Uusimaa Region 5-7.7.2010. Target is to explore new concepts to encourage regions towards societal innovations.

On Monday 6.9 at Otaniemi in City of Espoo the program includes presentations of Aalto University new concept, Culminatum Innovation Competitiveness Development & International Networking, Laurea University of Applied Sciences Active Life Village and Otaniemi Marketing assisting foreign companies to set up in Espoo and Helsinki region.

The visit is part of the preparation of the Helsinki-Uusimaa Region European Entrepreneurial Region year 2012 and prepared by the Committee of the Regions and Uusimaa Regional Council

The Human Capital Index of European Regions aims to develop an analytical framework measuring and comparing investment in knowledge and education within and between regions.

The Lisbon Council’s Human Capital Methodology has been successfully deployed since 2006. Hitherto applied to countries, this one-of-a-kind analytical tool will now be adapted for use at regional and city level. As part of a new, ambitious and far-reaching research study, and also Helsinki-Uusimaa region will serve as a case study.

The Lisbon Council for Economic Competitiveness and Social Renewal is a think tank and policy network committed to defining and articulating a mature strategy for managing current and future challenges.



Aalto University opening 2010-2011

The first academic year opening of Aalto University 2010–2011 took place on September, 1. Tuula Teeri, President of Aalto University, at the opening: World-class status is achievable through commitment and cooperation. Aalto University’s goal of achieving the position by the year 2020 of being a unique world-class university that combines expertise in the fields of technology, design and business.

– Achieving this world-class position is an ambitious goal that will require the best people in the world. We make our most important decisions when we select students, researchers, teachers and other staff members. Aalto University has indeed from the start focused on establishing an academic career system based on the international model. The principles and process for this career system are now ready, and the first recruitments will take place this autumn, Teeri announced.

As an example of an interesting international cooperation project, Teeri mentioned the Design Factory that was established on the campus of Tongji University in Shanghai based on Aalto University’s Design Factory in Otaniemi, Espoo in Finland. Research cooperation will be undertaken in connection with the Tongji Design Factory, and student exchanges are also planned.
